Despite the constant criticism that President Duterte has been subjected to stemming from the rampant extrajudicial killings in his administration's bloody drug war, his fame continues to rise.
He is apparently so popular that he has overtaken the Pope in Time Magazine'slist of 'Most Influential People'.
The list is annually released by the American news magazine after conducting an online poll. The entrants are usually people who have shaped the world one way or another, despite the consequences of their actions.
They are usually considered as game changers who have created a big impact both locally and internationally, be it positively or negatively.
As of March 27, 2017, Duterte has received 4% of the total votes in the online poll, making him the front-runner.
Pope Francis has 3%. Also garnering 3% of the votes were Russian President Vladimir Putin, Canadian President Justin Trudeau, actress Emma Watson, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
Also included in the top ten are pop singers Lady Gaga, Beyonce Knowles, and Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.
